When we talk about server performance, we usually think of the CPU and RAM. In practice, however, the disk is often the real bottleneck — especially for databases and dynamic websites that constantly read and write data.
From HDD to SSD
Classic mechanical disks (HDD) have moving parts and are slow at random access. SSDs have no moving parts and are many times faster, which is immediately noticeable in page loads and database queries.
What does NVMe bring?
NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) connects drives directly over PCIe instead of the older SATA interface. The result is much higher bandwidth, lower latency and many times more IOPS (operations per second).
- Higher bandwidth — faster copying and backups
- Many times more IOPS — ideal for databases
- Lower latency — faster responses under load
For an online shop or a database with many concurrent users, moving from a SATA SSD to NVMe can noticeably reduce response time.
When is SSD enough?
For smaller websites, blogs or static content, a quality SATA SSD is more than enough and cost-effective. NVMe is worth it when you have intensive data operations or need low latency.
Our infrastructure
Datacenter.mk servers use enterprise-grade SSD and NVMe storage, so you get stable performance where it matters most — in the everyday operation of your applications.
