Security is not a one-time task but a continuous process. Whether you run a small website or a critical application, a few basic habits greatly reduce the risk of attacks and data loss.

1. Updates first

The vast majority of attacks exploit known vulnerabilities for which a patch has long been available. Regularly updating the operating system and software is the cheapest and most effective protection.

2. Firewall and minimal access

Open only the ports you actually use. Restrict SSH access to known IP addresses, disable password login and prefer SSH keys.

  • Firewall rules based on "deny everything except what is allowed"
  • Changing default ports where it makes sense
  • Two-factor authentication for administrator access

3. Strong passwords and permissions

Every service should run with the minimum permissions it needs. Use a password manager and never share administrator credentials over unprotected channels.

The weakest link is usually not the server, but a single weak password or a forgotten update.

4. Backups and SSL

Regular, automatic backups are your last line of defence. Test the restore — an untested backup is not a backup. SSL/TLS certificates encrypt communication and are a must for every serious website.

5. Monitoring

Monitoring traffic, load and logs allows unusual behaviour to be detected early. At Datacenter.mk the infrastructure is set up according to security standards, and our team is available 24/7 to react quickly when something goes wrong.
